Mountain Health Arena is the newest place in town to grab some lunch, watch a game, or enjoy a concert. Learn about Mountain Health Arena's concert venue, where the Colorado Rockies play ball, and what they have planned for the future. Ten years ago, Winston Farm was just your average farmstead atop a mountain in north Boulder. Today it is one of Boulder's most modern building complexes — hosting four businesses and currently under construction for an additional six buildings including a luxury hotel. Most people are familiar with their recreational complex which offers everything from hiking trails and picnic areas to events like music festivals, amateur sports tournaments, and even dog training classes.
All of these activities are now housed in a new complex called Mountain Health Arena, which opened this past summer. The "Arena" is located on the southwest corner of their property, at the base of the mountain, and includes a 360-degree outdoor covered amphitheater; a 14-unit luxury hotel; 20 acres of nature/green space; and two restaurants: Firehouse Bistro (Steakhouse) and Shearer's Mountain Grill (New American). Shearer's first opened in November 2014 as a wine bar and deli before moving into its current location at the end of 2015. The complex's second restaurant, Firehouse Bistro, has been open since September 2016.
When can I go to Mountain Health Arena?
General admission is every day, 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and $3 for adults and $1 for kids ages 6-12, with no ticket required to enter the amphitheater. The Amphitheater is open all year round, so no matter the weather you'll be able to enjoy live music. The amphitheater gets a good bit of natural light during the summer months as it opens on all four sides of the building.
Where is Mountain Health Arena?
Mountain Health Arena is located at the base of the mountain on 40th Street and Valmont Road (please note the main entrance's address is 11041 Valmont Rd., which can be accessed from either 40th or Nelson Drive). You can enter through the main entrance or off of Nelson Drive just to the east of 40th Street. If you're using a GPS, use "4050 Valmont Road'' as that's where Firehouse Bistro and Shearer's are located.
What kinds of events do they host?
Mountain Health Arena has hosted over 100 events between their nature/green space and restaurants. They've worked with Boulder County Parks, the Boulder Community College Foundation, the City of Boulder, and countless others to bring people together for a wide array of entertainment. The amphitheater alone has hosted music festivals (Y2K Festival and Jammfest), amateur sporting events like skateboard contests, hackathon events, amateur theater and dance shows, food festivals (Boulder Bacon Fest), fine wine tasting events (Cellar 29 Wine Club), as well as dozens of other community meetings and concerts from local artists.
What can I expect to see at Mountain Health Arena?
It's hard to miss: the covered amphitheater, the luxury hotel, and of course the restaurants. We expect to see a lot of fun happen right at the amphitheater's front door. At Mountain Health Arena they are striving to host all types of events throughout the year including family-friendly summer concerts, fall festivals, winter holiday events (including a new winter holiday movie series), and more. You can also expect them to be hosting other events in their nature/green space like team-building hikes or guided tours.
