NCP's Ajit Pawar become deputy CM - Master Move from SHINDE led Shive Sena

Ajit Pawar, a senior leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has joined the Maharashtra government led by Eknath Shinde as the deputy Chief Minister. This move has caused a division within the NCP, as Ajit Pawar and his supporters were upset about NCP President Sharad Pawar and Working President Supriya Sule attending an opposition meeting in Patna.

Ajit Pawar, along with eight other NCP leaders, took oath as ministers. Ajit Pawar has resigned as the leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly. The Maharashtra BJP president claims that 40 NCP MLAs out of 53 have supported the state government. The state assembly elections are scheduled for next year.

This political development follows a revolt led by Shinde last year, which led to the collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. Shinde became the Chief Minister with BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis as the deputy CM. Ajit Pawar met party leaders and MLAs before joining the government. The NCP president, Sharad Pawar, claimed he was unaware of the meeting.

After the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Shiv Sena ended its alliance with the BJP and formed the MVA government with the NCP and Congress.

However, a revolt led by Shinde caused a split in the Shiv Sena and the collapse of the MVA government.
